Episode 164: Preparing Your Community For 2022

The New Year is right around the corner and L. Joy is committed to doubling down on organizing her community in 2022! Now, how do we join her and take our civic engagement to the next level too? L. Joy is breaking down strategies and explaining how we can think through what we will do in 2022 of course, and Lurie & June make it to class!

Homework:

We are moving from the negative, “what we are against,” and leading with “what we are for.” Write down three (3) things that you are for and are going to advocate around in 2022.

  • Re-familiarize yourself with who represents you. Start on the local level all the way to the federal level. Write down the names, addresses, social media handles to be ready to reach out to them to tell them what you are for.

  • Make note of important dates: all elections, local and federal, community board meetings, school board meetings, city council meetings, etc. Put them on a calendar so that you don’t miss anything.

  • Think about other ways you can get #CivicallyEngaged. Maybe find out what credentials you need to hold a voter registration drive in your municipality or to be a poll worker.
